PepsiCo has confirmed the launch of its latest "craft" soda, Pepsi-Cola 1893.

The new cola claims to be inspired by original recipes created in 1893 by Pepsi founder Caleb Bradham. It is a blend of kola nut extract, cane sugar and sparkling water and is available in two flavours - Original and Ginger Cola.

Reports of the new cola surfaced late last year and this month the company released a teaser ad for the two flavours. It follows the launch of another PepsiCo "craft" soda, Caleb's Kola, unveiled in 2014.

PepsiCo has made a number of moves to push its soft drinks brands further up the value chain. This week the company gave a US national rollout to Mountain Dew Black Label, a premium extension with marketing that claims it is a "classier" alternative to regular Mountain Dew.
