PepsiCo is looking to install Pepsi Zone lounges in three US shopping malls. The drinks company is working with Chicago mall operator General Growth Properties Inc. on the project, which sees lounges opening this weekend at Pembroke Lakes Mall in Florida, Northridge Fashion Center in California and Spring Hill Mall in Illinois.

Each lounge will provide teenagers with Xbox video games, music videos to watch and vending machines offering PepsiCo beverages.

Speaking to Dow Jones, Craig Coffey, PepsiCo's vice president of food service and marketing strategy, said: "The lounges give teens a cool, fun, safe place to hang out with friends and allow us to strengthen our connection with them."

Coca-Cola opened two Coca-Cola Red Lounges in Illinois and Los Angeles in late 2003.

A Pepsi spokeswoman declined to provide Dow Jones with the financial terms of the deal.
