PepsiCo has confirmed it is testing a Doritos-flavoured Mountain Dew variant called 'Dewitos' in the US.

PepsiCo formed the Power of One council in 2011

The company, which owns the Doritos and Mountain Dew brands, said the off-shoot was being tested around US campuses as part of a small programme to try out new flavours. “Giving our fans a voice in helping decide on the next new product has always been important to us,” PepsiCo said.

A photograph of Dewitos being handed out to consumers at Ohio's Kent State University was posted on Reddit by student Steve Barnes at the weekend. Barnes said on the website that the beverage “honestly wasn't too disgusting. It just had a really strong Doritos aftertaste, which was odd."

PepsiCo has been trying to take advantage of the combined scale of its food and beverage businesses since at least 2011, when it formed the Power of One - Americas Council. Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo's CEO, said at the time that the council “will help us to better coordinate our manufacturing, sales and distribution activities”.
