PepsiCo India has declined to comment on reports that it plans to launch its sugar-free Pepsi Max drink in India to compete with The Coca-Cola Co's Thums Up brand.

A Pepsico India spokesperson told just-drinks yesterday (5 July) that the division would not comment on speculation that it intends to launch Pepsi Max within the next few weeks.

Pepsi Max is expected to be available in cans as well as PET bottles and priced competitively in-line with other fizzy drinks and especially the imported Coke Zero, according to the Economic Times newspaper, citing sources close to the situation.

India's carbonated drinks market is valued at INR80bn (US$1.7bn), but diet varieties hold just a 5% value share.
