PepsiCo and International Dispensing Corp (IDC) have agreed that the soft drinks giant will launch soft drinks using IDC's 'The Answer' dispensing technology in a "major international market" in 2011.

"PepsiCo and IDC anticipate that the market roll-out will commence in early 2011," said IDC yesterday (22 December). It said that, if successful, the two companies are expected to sign a global agreement by mid-2011.

The deal shows that PepsiCo is seeking new ways to offer its beverages to consumers. IDC's 'The Answer' technology is essentially a bag-in-box concept for soft drinks. The company claims that drinks using the concept require no refrigeration and have an "extended" shelf-life.

IDC said its technology "is ideal for organic fruit and vegetable juices, isotonic sports drinks, dairy and soy, coffee and tea [and] nutraceuticals".
