The US firm is holding talks about a deal in the country, also known as Burma, Reuters reported today (13 November). It comes after it announced in August it was following its rival Coca-Cola Co by returning to the country after a long absence

“We want to establish local production,” Reuters quoted CEO for PepsiCo Asia, Middle East & Africa Saad Abdul-Latif as saying. “We will be signing that within the next year or so.”

PepsiCo told just-drinks it had nothing to add to the Reuters report.

Abdul-Latif was talking on the sidelines of the opening of PepsiCo's new R&D centre in Shanghai today, Reuters said.

PepsiCo signed a deal with Myanmar's Diamond Star to roll-out Pepsi-Cola, 7-Up and Mirinda roll out in parts of the country as part of its return this year.
