PepsiCo has unveiled a four-minute animated movie for its Gatorade brand charting the life of football star Lionel Messi.

The ad, which rolls out ahead of this month's FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia, tells the story of the Barcelona and Argentina footballer and the challenges he has faced. A spokesperson for Gatorade told just-drinks the film will be available to all markets through YouTube.

The FIFA World Cup runs from 14 June to 15 July, with beverage companies lining up a number of campaigns to tie in with the tournament. The Coca-Cola Co is a main sponsor and has already unveiled targetted activations.

Meanwhile, figures released last week said the UK economy could receive a GBP2.72bn (US$3.6bn) boost if England reach the final of the World Cup, with the country's on- and off-premise channels among the main beneficiaries.
