PepsiCo's Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning has a peach-and-honey flavour created to pair with KFC chicken

Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning has a peach-and-honey flavour created to pair with KFC chicken. The variant will only be on sale in KFC restaurants in the US from 1 July, PepsiCo said today.

The move deepens KFC's relationship with PepsiCo, which is the beverage partner for the fast-food restaurant's US outlets. Sweet Lightning is the first exclusive beverage to be offered at KFC.

An ad campaign will support the new launch, including video spots featuring the character of Sweet Lightning, a "Mountain Dew pitchman who is sweet, smooth and lightning-fast", according to PepsiCo.

The launch of the new flavour mirrors the roll-out of Mountain Dew extension Baja Blast, which went on sale exclusively in US Taco Bell restaurants in 2004. Baja Blast got a limited release on US shelves in 2014 and 2015, and last year was available in cans and bottles in the US grocery channel.
