PepsiCo will roll out Caleb's Kola in the eastern US

PepsiCo has confirmed reports it is to launch a new cola in the US inspired by trends for craft beverages.

The snacks and soft drinks maker will initially roll out Caleb's Kola in select CostCos in Maryland, New York, Virginia and Washington, D.C, AP reported yesterday citing Beverage Digest. The 110-calorie beverage is named after Caleb Bradham, the inventor of the Pepsi formula in the 1890s.

A PepsiCo spokesperson today confirmed the reports to just-drinks without commenting further. An under-construction website for the new drink says it is made with cane sugar and kola nut extract.

AP reported that Caleb's Kola is being positioned as a “craft” soda as the US sees growth in sectors including craft beer and craft spirits. The hashtag for the drink on its website is #honorincraft. “If you are passionate and love the craft you do, we are with you 100% of the way,” the site says.

It is the second soda launch for PepsiCo this month following the announcement of the stevia-based Pepsi True, which will be available exclusively in the US on Amazon.
