PepsiCo has appointed a former deputy US trade representative to its board of directors.

Fisher is PepsiCo's second board appointment this month

Richard Fisher, who helped oversee the implementation of NAFTA, joins the company's board today. Fisher this month stepped down from his role as president & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

"Richard brings to our board a deep knowledge of financial matters and a breadth of global experience and expertise in international trade and regulatory matters," said Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo's chairman & CEO.

Fisher was deputy US trade representative from 1997 to 2001 and as well as NAFTA, “was instrumental” in China and Taiwan's WTO ascension, PepsiCo said. He currently sits on Harvard University's board of overseers.

The appointment follows the election this month of the former head of the PepsiAmericas bottler, Robert Pohlad, to the PepsiCo board.
