Pepsi-Cola North America has confirmed the launch of Mountain Dew Pitch Black II. The company said today (24 August) that the beverage, Mountain Dew with black grape and a metallic silver label, will be available for a limited period from this week.

The new drink is released nationwide in 20-ounce bottles, two-litre bottles, and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans, and will be available for 10 weeks until November, PepsiCo said. The company initially ran a limited period release of Mountain Dew Pitch Black last year.

"Every great movie deserves a sequel," said Katie Lacey, vice president of marketing, carbonated soft drinks for Pepsi-Cola North America. "Consumers loved Mountain Dew Pitch Black and they wanted us to bring it back, but with something new. Sour flavours are big right now with teens and young adults, so we added a sour bite to Mountain Dew Pitch Black II."

The rollout of the brand will be supported by point-of-purchase materials and an Internet marketing campaign at www.pitchblackexperiment.com. Also later this autumn, NASCAR's Jeremy Mayfield will drive the Mountain Dew Pitch Black II paint-out car at the Nextel Cup race in Kansas City on 9 October.
