Origin Wine has entered the 'stackable' wine arena in the UK with its first listing for the Stormhoek Stack Chardonnay, a 75cl bottle that separates into four single serve glasses.

The South African wine maker said today the Stack, which uses the same packaging as US firm Stack Wine's ready-to-drink pack unveiled in 2011, is now on sale at UK supermarket Tesco for GBP7.49 (US$12.60). Stack Wine is the in-house wine brand for Stacktek, the Californian company behind the stack technology.

Origin's MD, Bernard Fontannaz, said: “The unique StackTek technology offers consumers the convenience of a non-breakable, single-serve glass of wine while retaining the elevated image of wine in a stylish glass.”

Each bottle is divided into four 18.7cl wine glasses that are heat-sealed and can be stored for 96 weeks.

“Aimed at consumers who want to enjoy a fresh glass of wine without opening a whole bottle, the Stormhoek Stack suits consumers who would otherwise choose a single-serve beer or cocktail,” Origin said.

The Stormhoek Stack Chardonnay was first unveiled at the London Wine Fair in June.
