In the newly-created role, Alex Parra will oversee marketing for O’Neill's national brands including Line 39, Redtree, Austerity and Backhouse. Parra previously handled Constellation wine brands such as Mark West, Estancia and Toasted Head.

He also worked for Del Monte Foods and the marketing agency MediaVest, where he supported marketing efforts for Heineken USA.

Roy Cecchetti, president of the national brands division at O’Neill, said: “Alex has the perfect combination of experience, passion and creativity that will elevate our national brands portfolio.”

O'Neill is the eighth-largest wine producer in the US by volume and its national brands account for about 600,000 cases a year.

Last year, the company launched a range of wines called Austerity targeted at “post-recession consumers”.
