Dr Oetker has announced the closure of two major breweries in Germany. The closures will result in almost 300 job losses.

The beer producer said yesterday (1 February) that it will close the Kindl in Berlin and the Brinkhoff in Dortmund. Oetker, which has two breweries in each city, said it will concentrate future production at one site in each, but would keep the brands going.

Family-owned Oetker took control of Brau und Brunnen brewing group last year and set about integrating it with Oetker's existing Radeberger beer division while keeping up 40 labels.

Brinkhoff production will move to Oetker's DAB brewery in Dortmund next year. The brewing ot Kindl will be moved to the Schultheiss brewery in Berlin. The group said it would invest €50m (US$65m) in modernisation while eliminating 275 jobs.
