San Francisco-based North Channel Distillery has launched what it calls a Californian take on Pisco.

Frisco is "inspired" by the Chilean and Peruvian spirit, North Channel Distillery said today, and designed for a "globally-minded audience". It is made with Californian grapes and double distilled in a copper pot still, followed by charcoal mellowing.

"The result is a clean, full-bodied, yet delicately smooth taste complemented by floral overtones and suggestions of tropical fruit," North Channel said.

It is produced and bottled at Seven Stills of SF, a San Francisco-based distillery. Frisco is the first product from North Channel, which was founded in 2016.

Pisco is becoming more popular in the US. Last year, Peruvian pisco producer Pisco Portón launched an acholado expression into the US market.
