Pinot Noir NZ 2017 takes place in New Zealand in January

The trade association for New Zealand's wine industry has launched a competition for independent off-trade outlets in the UK to promote Pinot Noir wines from the country.

The activation, launched this week, invites retailers in the UK to run a promotion of New Zealand's Pinot Noir segment for at least two weeks in September. New Zealand Winegrowers is offering two trips to the country for the winners of its competition, to attend the 'Pinot Noir NZ 2017' three-day event in Wellington.

UK retailers wishing to take part need to stock at least three New Zealand Pinot Noirs from a minimum of two different regions.

"By offering such an exclusive prize, we hope many independent retailers will get involved," said Chris Stroud, New Zealand Winegrowers marketing manager for Europe.

Last month, the trade association reported a healthy volume lift for the country's 2016 wine grape harvest. Volumes rose by 34% last year, following a 27% tumble in the year prior.
