Nelson's Green Brier is breaking out of its home town, with the availability of its namesake whiskey brand set to include other markets in Tennessee as well as in Kentucky and South Carolina.

The Nashville-based craft distiller, which is majority-owned by Constellation Brands, will see its flagship brand on the shelves in Chattanooga, Memphis and Knoxville in Tennessee, Louisville and Lexington in Kentucky and across South Carolina in the coming days. Plans are also in place for Nelson's Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey to go nationwide by 2022.

"We're incredibly proud to … begin introducing the historic label beyond the borders of our hometown," said co-founder Charlie Nelson. "This is just the first step of many to come."

Three years after buying a minority stake in Nelson's Green Brier, Constellation upped it's holding to take control in May last year. The group made another craft spirits play earlier this week, snapping up Copper & Kings American Brandy Co in Kentucky.

Originally launching in 1860, Nelson's Green Brier was brought back into business in 2014 by three great-grandsons of founder Charles Nelson. The namesake whiskey, which was unveiled late last year, is matured for between two and five years and carries a retail price point of US$29.99 per bottle.
