Monster is hoping to launch in China this year

Earlier this year, Monster CEO Rodney Sacks said the energy drinks brand was set to roll out in the second quarter of this year. Speaking yesterday at the company's AGM, Sacks told shareholders and analysts that the firm was now targeting the launch in the latter part of 2016.

"We are continuing to make good progress in finalising distribution and production agreements with the Coca-Cola bottlers in China," he said, "as well as finalising registrations for Monster Green Energy drink in China."

In a note following the presentation, SIG analyst Pablo Zuanic said the launch in China was taking a "measured pace".

"The pricing strategy is also anticipated to be different in the region... with per can pricing around US$1," the analyst said.

Meanwhile, Sacks said the company had made progress in India.

"After some delays, we are now proceeding with the test run of Monster in India," he said. "We hope to be in a position to commence local production there later this year, which will result in a substantial improvement in our economics in India."

Sacks said increased local production was part of the company's strategy to improve growth margins, reduce damages and assist in mitigating effects of exchange rate fluctuations.
