French syrup maker Monin has launched its first vegetable flavours as it targets new mocktail trends. Le Fruit de Monin's Beetroot and Carrot variants will roll out from March in the UK. They join Monin's range of fruit syrups designed for use in cocktails or smoothies in the casual dining sector.

Monin said that with demand for low- and no-alcohol options set to gain momentum in 2018, mocktails remain on-trend. It also said the beetroot flavour gives a purple colour that is "perfect for creating Instagram-worthy signature serves", while the carrot taps into trends for more savoury ingredients.

Innovation in cocktail syrups is increasing. This year, AG Barr's pre-made cocktail unit, Funkin, and UK draft wine specialist Frizzenti unveiled on-draught cocktails aimed at larger venues with high footfall.
