First wines from the American-Australian joint wine label venture between Robert Mondavi and Rosemount will go on sale next February, a joint announcement said.

The first wines will be a California Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah and a Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend. There will also be an Australian Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay.

The wines will sell in the US$13-15 range.

Later next year the top of the range wines, an Australian Shiraz, retailing for US$80 a bottle, and a California Syrah at US$60, will go on the market.

The partnership was established in 2000. Since then Rosemount has become part - and in effective control - of the Southcorp group.
