Molson Coors has confirmed an addition to its board of directors.

The North American brewer said today (18 July) that Iain Napier will join its board with immediate effect.

Among his previous positions, Napier was vice president of InBev's UK & Ireland unit from 2000 to 2001, having been CEO of Bass Brewers from 1996 to 2000.

He is currently non-executive chairman of Imperial Tobacco Group, non-executive chairman of McBride, and a non-executive director of Collins Stewart.

"Iain Napier will be a valuable addition to our board," said Molson Coors' chairman Eric Molson. "He brings significant expertise specific to the brewing industry, along with extensive experience in consumer goods, finance, and executive leadership as well as a global perspective to our business as we enter a period of opportunity and growth for Molson Coors."

Earlier this month, Molson Coors announced that its joint venture with SABMiller in the US, MillerCoors, has begun trading. The new unit will see each side hold a 50% voting interest in the joint venture and have five representatives each on its board.
