New marketing director for Molson Coors UK

Molson Coors has confirmed the permanent appointment of a marketing director for its UK unit.

The company said today (2 February) that Chris McDonough will assume the position in June, replacing David Preston, who took the post on an interim basis in October.

McDonough joins Molson Coors UK from Muller UK, where he is the current marketing and R&D director and Ireland general manager. Prior to his current employ, McDonough has also been marketing controller at Bacardi Martini.

Preston will move to the newly-created role of director of commercial innovation, and will report in to McDonough.

Molson Coors UK's CEO, Mark Hunter, said: “I'd like to thank David for his interim support over the last few months as we have conducted the external search for a new marketing director and am delighted that he can now focus his skill and expertise in developing innovations that will stimulate the beer category, providing more value for our customer and consumers.”

Last month, the unit said it intends to up its marketing spend for 2010 by GBP8.1m (US$13.2m) in a bid to try and stimulate the beer category's performance in the UK.
