Molson Coors Beverage Corp has released the first products from its cannabis joint-venture.

The five lines include low-potency citrus-flavoured sparkling waters, a "self-care" iced tea and a "high intensity" juice with 10mg of psychoactive ingredient THC. The beverages will roll out in Canada through Molson Coors' Truss Beverage Co, a JV with Canadian cannabis producer Hexo Corp.

"Molson Coors has been innovating in beverages for centuries," said Molson Coors' emerging growth division president, Pete Marino. "As it broadens out beyond beer, non-alcohol cannabis beverages are an exciting new frontier in Canada, and Truss has developed some incredible brands and beverages that are sure to be leaders in that marketplace."

Molson Coors created Truss in August 2018, taking two years to release the first products from the JV.

Despite Canada legalising the sale of cannabis-infused beverages in 2018, global brewers that have partnered with cannabis companies have faced challenges getting product to market. Constellation Brands' cannabis partner, Canopy Growth, has seen its share price drop in the past year as it contends with fears of a sluggish cannabis market in Canada following federal legalisation. Plans for cannabis beverage launches with Constellation were put on hold earlier this year because of production challenges.

Molson Coors partner Hexo has also seen its share price fall, from a high of almost US$8 in April last year to less than US$1.

Elsewhere, in December, Anheuser-Busch InBev's partner, Fluent Beverages, hit out at Canada's "unregulated" cannabis products that claim to contain only CBD but also have above-trace amounts of the psychoactive cannabis cannabinoid, THC. Fluent said at the time that consumers are "concerned" about these products.

Molson Coors' full range of cannabis beverages comprise:

  • House of Terpenes - Limonene and Myrcene flavoured sparkling tonics, made with terpene flavours. A blend of 5mg CBD and 5mg THC
  • Little Victory - Flavoured sparkling beverages available in Dry Grapefruit and Dry Lemon, and two fruit-flavour sparkling beverages in Dark Cherry and Blood Orange. Contain a blend of 2.5mg CBD and 2.5mg THC
  • Mollo 2.5 and Mollo 5 - Cannabis beverages with a hoppy finish. A blend of CBD and THC of varying levels
  • Veryvell - A line-up of products that support self-care, including Strawberry Hibiscus and Sicilian Lemon flavoured sparkling waters, Lemon Black iced tea and Cannabis Extract Drops
  • XMG - Non-carbonated, high-intensity flavoured beverages in Mango Pineapple and Tropical Fruit flavours with 10mg of THC

Information on prices was not immediatly available. House of Terpenes is on sale through Ontario's cannabis monopoly, the Ontario Cannabis Store, for CAD7.95 (US$6) per 35.5cl bottle.
