William Grant & Sons has announced the pending departure of the head of its recently-acquired Drambuie unit.

Michael Kennedy, who became CEO of Drambuie in 2011, is set to step down in March. William Grant said the decision had been “amicably agreed”.

The company acquired Drambuie from the MacKinnon family in September.

When contacted by just-drinks, a spokesperson for the company confirmed that the CEO role at Drambuie "will not exist going forward".

Stella David, William Grant's CEO, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael for the significant role he played in both the rebuilding of the Drambuie brand and in the acquisition. We would also like to recognise the invaluable support and leadership Michael has provided through the integration process of Drambuie into the William Grant & Sons group.”

Kennedy joined Drambuie from Mars in 2002 to become its regional director for southern Europe.
