McGuigan Simeon Wines has brought in an outsider to review its cost-cutting programme. Simon McDowell, the former head of Goodman Fielder's baking division, will assess all operations in a cost-cutting review expected to be finished by the end of this year.

McDowell has been hired on a contract basis to undertake the review. "He's going to look from the outside in," McGuigan Simeon's chief executive Brian McGuigan was quoted saying in Australian Financial Review.

The wine company's cost-cutting review will look at administrative services and information technology as well as the core operations of wine-making, viticulture and packaging.

McGuigan told the AFR that the review would take several months and that the findings would be implemented before February next year.
