The Italian wine company Calatrasi and UK distributor Matthew Clark have joined forces to distribute Calatrasi's brands in the UK, these include Italy's biggest brand D'Istinto and the Accademia del Sole range in the off-trade through Grant's of St james. In the on-trade Matthew Clark Wholesale will take on a range of Calatrasi's brands.

"We felt that the time had come within our development cycle to take a strategic view of the UK," Christian Reintjes, trade director, Calatrasi said. "The UK represents for us a very significant part of our export market and we believe that the only way to better meet and satisfy our customer's expectations was to have a strong partnership with a important and well established player such as Matthew Clark, supporting a strong marketing proposition."

John Mills, managing director of Grants of St James's Wines said: "Our vision is to build strong wine brands in both the off- and on-trades. This partnership with Calatrasi gives us the best platform to develop a strong offering from Southern Italy. The 2002 vintage is stunning and Calatrasi's commitment to growing this category is very dynamic. We pick our partners very carefully and we know we have a winner with Calatrasi."
