Southern Rhone Valley producer and trader, Maison Gabriel Meffre, has taken control of its Loire Valley counterpart Donatien Bahuaud.

In a joint statement, the two companies highlighted that they have a lot in common while at the same time complementing each other in terms of the wines they market.

"The acquisition of Donatien Bahuaud will allow us to offer our international customers a broader range of wines and in particular whites," commented Meffre's president, Bertrand Bonnet.

Bahuaud, which specialises in the key Loire AOCs, posted a turnover for the 12-month period to September 30 of €13m from a marketed volume of close to 600,000 cases of wine.

Based at Gigondas, in the Vaucluse, Meffre is expecting to post a 2004 turnover of €40m from volumes totalling 1.3m cases.
