The world’s most expensive collection of Scotch whisky - more than 10,000 rare bottles valued at £14.5m - will go on sale this week, after showcasing at The Getty Images Gallery in London.

'The Macallan Fine and Rare’ is the largest range of vintage single malt whiskies ever released for sale and spans some 26 different years from 1926 to 1972.

The most expensive bottle is priced at £20,000. Distilled in 1926 and bottled in 1986, The Macallan 1926 is one of only 12 remaining bottles in the world. Earlier this year another 60- year-old sold for a record price at auction of £20,150.

The collection also includes rare 19th century vintages from The Macallan’s archives, which number among the rarest, most valuable in the world. The Macallan 1856 has a £10,000 price tag.

"We have often been asked why the extraordinary range of vintage Macallan has never been available for sale," said David Cox, Director of Fine and Rare whiskies.

"After all you can buy vintage bottles of the great chateau-bottled wines, with whom The Macallan is often compared."

The historic collection will showcase on Tuesday at The Getty Images Gallery in London and will later travel to the USA and Asia.

All bottles will be available for sale at the distillery except the 19th century vintages, which will be auctioned on The Macallan website.
