US drinks firm Luxco is nearing the completion of a Tequila distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.

DGL Destiladores will employ around 35 people

The distillery, DGL Destiladores (Destiladora González Luxco), is located just outside the city of Arandas. The 3.5-hectare facility is expected to begin production this summer.

The project sees the continuation of a partnership between the Lux and González families. Financial details behind the construction were not disclosed.

DGL will employ about 35 people when it is fully operational. The facility will have cooking capacity for 60 tonnes of agave in pot stills, the company said. Luxco and the González family will work together to grow and source the Weber Blue Agave, used to produce brands including El Mayor and Exotico Tequilas.

"Luxco has seen incredible growth in our Tequila portfolio, especially in the Exotico and El Mayor brands, and this new distillery will allow us to further expand our production and enhance the brands," said Donn Lux, chairman & CEO of Luxco.

Last year, Luxco set up Lux Row Distillers to operate its Kentucky whiskey distillery, which is scheduled to open this year.
