Lucozade Ribena Suntory has launched a new Lucozade ad in the UK and Ireland as part of a GBP9m (US$13.7m) investment in the brand this year.

The ad, which ties in with the upcoming Rugby World Cup due to kick off at the end of this month, will air in the country in 30- and 60-second formats. It shows overseas rugby players trying to buy Lucozade Sport after the drink was deemed for UK and Ireland players only.

An ad resembling a Sky Sports newscast discussing the pretend ban will also air in the lead up to the tournament.

The campaign forms part of fresh investment in Lucozade, which was bought by Suntory along with Ribena in 2013. A new exotic Mango & Passion Fruit Lucozade Sport was launched in March and has generated GBP1.8m in sales in its first three months, according to Suntory.
