The Swedish brewer, Kopparbergs Bryggeri AB, reported a pre-tax loss of SKr9.7m ($983,000/€1.1m) for the first quarter of 2002 against a pre-tax loss of SKr12.3m ($1.2m/€1.3m) in the first quarter of 2001. Net turnover in the quarter reached SKr95.5m ($9.7m/€10.5m), up from SKr80.1m ($8.1m/€8.8m) in the first three months of 2001.

Kopparbergs is the third largest brewer in Sweden and also exports to Denmark, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Greece and Spain. In February, Kopparbergs announced the acquisition of the Zeunerts brewing concern which was followed in March by its acquisition of another rival Swedish brewer, Banco Bryggerier, bringing its total number of plants in Sweden to four.
