London Wine Fair has become the latest event to be postponed amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Organisers the Hemming Group said today that future plans for the three-day trade fair, which was set to take place between 18 and 20 May, will be announced as soon as possible. The move comes in the wake of the UK Government advising this week against public gatherings to counter the spread of the coronavirus.

"We are keenly aware that the developing COVID-19 pandemic is putting immense pressure on not only the events industry but the drinks industry and the hospitality industry," the company said. "We value our position at the heart of both and will always make decisions with them front of mind."

Hemming Group said that it has taken the decision now in order to provide enough notice for exhibitors.

"Experience dictates that the bulk of organising for exhibitors and sponsors happens between now and the event. Our objective in taking this decision with two month's lead-time, is to minimise unnecessary expenditure and stress caused by uncertainty."

Earlier this month, ProWein was cancelled a week before the Dusseldorf-based show was scheduled to take place.
