This year's London International Wine Fair & Distil received a record number of visitors, according to figures released this week.

The trade show's organiser, Brintex, said yesterday (3 June) that attendance at the event, held late last month, totalled 14,903 visitors over the three days, an increase of 9% on 2007. The total does not include those who exhibited at the show.

Visitors from outside the UK represented 26% of the total number, with 3,865 attending, an increase of 11% on 2007.

"We have constantly reinforced the message that the quality of audience is more important than the quantity," said Brintex's event director, James Murray. "We are delighted with the 9% increase in attendance, and can look back on the best-attended Fair in its 28-year history." Murray described the number of re-bookings for 2009 as being "exceptional".

Next year's LIWF and Distil will take place between 12 and 14 May, a week earlier than usual.
