Leclerc has become the first retailer in France to launch a CSD concentrate, which has been designed not to require a carbonation machine.

Frucci, which is produced under Leclerc's Marque Repère private label, is available in a 50cl bottle that is equipped with a measuring cap allowing up to 12 litres of drinks to be made. It is available in four flavours - cola, cola light, lemonade and orangeade - to be diluted with sparkling mineral water.

Frucci is made on Leclerc's behalf by western France-based L’Abeille, which specialises in retailers' private label fizzy drinks.

"In light of the success of SodaStream, we pitched the idea of a private label version to our retailer customers and Leclerc replied in the affirmative," a spokesman for L'Abeille told just-drinks. 

SodaStream generated sales in French supermarkets of EUR100m in 2013.
