Lassonde Industries has completed the acquisition of the RTD fruit juices and fruit drinks portfolio of McCain Foods' Canadian division.

The company, also based in Canada, confirmed today (5 November) that its A. Lassonde subsidiary has closed the purchase of McCain Foods fruit beverage interests for a sum of C13.5m (US$14.4m).

The purchased assets include McCain's juice plant in Calgary, Alberta; production equipment currently located in Toronto, Ontario and in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, and certain trademarks as well as a three-year license to use the McCain and other trademarks on specified products.

Lassonde confirmed last month that it had lined up an asset purchase agreement with McCain in Canada to make the acquisition.

"This purchase brings us to an important milestone in our business development in western Canada, enabling us to strengthen Lassonde's national positioning," said Jean Gattuso, A. Lassonde's president and CEO.

Lassonde sells its products under several trademarks in Canada, the New England states, Europe, Asia and North Africa, including Sun-Maid, Allen's, Sunkist, Rougemont, Oasis, Fruite, Bright's and Graves.
