Krombacher Brauerei has posted a very slight rise in production and sales for 2005. The German brewer said today (18 January) that production was up by 0.8% on 2004 to 5.6m hectolitres, while sales increased by the same percentage to EUR526m (US$635.9m).

No profit details were released.

Production last year was driven primarily by new products including Krombacher Radler, Krombacher Extra Mild, non-alcoholic beer Krombacher Alkoholfrei and beer/cola mix Cab. While the brewer's flagship pilsener beer remained as Germany's most popular beer, Krombacher noted that production fell by 3% in the year. The brand's market share, however, increased to 9.1 from 9.0, Krombacher added.

Exports for 2005 were up by 3.5% on 2004, at 147,000 hectolitres.

Looking forward, Krombacher projects a production increase of between 0.5% and 1% as the FIFA World Cup Tournament, to be held in Germany this summer, will help drive sales.
