Japanese brewer Kirin is set to promote managing director Kazuyasu Kato to the position of president, according to local reports.

Kato is set to succeed Koichiro Aramaki as president, who will stay on as chairman. A board meeting towards the end of March is expected to confirm the appointment, company officials told Kyodo News today (16 January).

Last week, Kirin said it would this year outperform a sluggish Japanese beer market and forecast a 3.5% increase in domestic beer sales for 2006.
