The Japanese brewer Kirin is to set up a holding company in Shanghai to oversee its Chinese business.

Kirin bought a quarter share in a brewer in north-east China late last year and also has operations in the east and south.

The company has now received government approval to set up Kirin (China) Investment later this month, to head its three regional units in north, east and south China.

A statement said: "Kirin Group intends to continue to actively develop its operations in the Chinese market, maximizing the Group's synergies through the holding company."
