Kingway Brewery has said its talks with Heineken to up its stake are at a "very preliminary stage." Heineken Asia-Pacific Breweries China, a joint venture between Heineken and Asia-Pacific Breweries, has a 21.44% stake in the Chinese brewer.

Heineken has made no secret about its plans to up its holding in Kingway. Last month, Heineken's hopes were knocked back when Kingway said that its parent company, Guangdong Holdings, which owns 52.63% of the brewer, said that it had no intention of relinquishing control over the company.
