The week in beer

The week in beer

Here's a round-up of this week's highlights in the global beer category. We are also running similar round-ups for spirits & wine and soft drinks & bottled water.

Heineken has confirmed it has received a takeover approach from SABMiller but that the proposal is “non-actionable”.

Heineken's announcement earlier today of an approach by SABMiller confirms what some observers have warned in recent months: The 'Mega-Merger' is most definitely on.

To many observers, the endgame for 'Mega Merger' began today. With SABMiller being outed for approaching Heineken about a takeover, the overwhelming feeling among analysts is that, with Heineken pooh-poohing SAB's overtures, Anheuser-Busch InBev has started the engines on its plan to buy the world's second largest brewer.

The Brewers Association (BA) has promoted its chief operating officer to the role of CEO.

Anheuser-Busch (A-B) has voiced its concern over the US National Football League's (NFL) handling of allegations of domestic violence and child abuse by current players.

Oasis Beverages has agreed a deal to acquire US brewer Pabst Brewing Co (PBC).
