Suntory Holdings has said that sales of bottled water were up by 46% last month

Several Japanese beverage firms are reporting marked rise in sales of bottled water for March, due to a rise in demand following last month's earthquake, according to reports.

Suntory Holdings has said that sales of its bottled water were up by 46% last month, Nikkei reported today (15 April), while sales of Asahi Soft Drinks Co's mineral water brands rose by 71%. Imported bottled water sales climbed by 45% for Ito En, and Kirin Beverage Co reported a combined 21% jump in sales of domestic and imported bottled water in March.

Most beverage producers in Japan are running their bottling plants at full production in a bid to meet demand for bottled water.
