The IWSC Group now operates 15 whisky events in the US

UK-based spirits competition and events company IWSC Group has acquired US whisky festival Whisky Extravaganza.

The firm said the purchase takes its US whisky events portfolio to 15. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Whisky Extravaganza holds events in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Washington DC.

The IWSC Group claims it is now the leading organiser of whisky festivals in both the US and in the UK, through its partnership with Whisky Lounge.

The Whisky Extravaganza was established in 1993 by Madeleine and Alan Shayne.

"The US is the world's second-largest whisky market by volume so the opportunity is considerable," said the CEO of the IWSC Group, Allen Gibbons. "We are keen to continue to tell the story of whisky to enthusiasts and newcomers alike, helping whisky companies to engage with more people on a deeper level; The Whisky Extravaganza takes us further on this journey."
