The wine unit of French agricultural co-operative InVivo has announced the acquisition of Netherlands-based Baarsma Wine Group.

Invivo Wine said earlier today that it has agreed the purchase of Baarsma from its owners, AAC Capital Partners Investment Fund and management. The value of the proposed transaction has not been disclosed.

Operating in imports and distribution, Baarsma is active in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Switzerland and South Africa. In the UK, it owns merchant Armit Wines.

The group, which also runs its own bottling facility in the Netherlands, boasts annual sales of around EUR210m (US$235.5m).

"Baarsma will be a 100%-owned subsidiary of InVivo Wine and will retain its dedicated management," InVivo said today.

MD Bertrand Girard added: "Baarsma will be a key distribution platform for InVivo Wine in Europe and will perfectly complement existing footholds and those currently in development within the group, especially in Asia and North America."

Girard has set a sales target for InVivo Wine of EUR500m by 2020.

The purchase should complete by early summer, subject to regulatory approval.
