Brewer Innis & Gunn has released a seasonal autumnal pale ale in the UK, infused with ingredients sourced from its native Scotland.

Rare Oak Ale, with an abv of 5.8%, is infused with Sweet Gale grown and harvested in the West Highlands. It has also been matured over Scottish oak hewed in the Borders.

“The majority of oak used for maturation in the brewing and distilling industries comes from America or Europe,” the company said. “Scottish oak is more similar to its European counterpart in that it releases more tannins, which give spicier flavour notes."

Super Styrian and Whitbread Golding hops have also been used in the beer, with elderflower added during the maturation process.

In its last set of full-year results, the Edinburgh-based brewer reported a 23% rise in sales as its export markets thrived.
