The Indian and Sri Lankan governments are to launch a drive to promote the export of tea to untapped markets.

New Delhi and Columbo will promote the sale of 'tea futures' on financial markets and their respective Tea Boards will study future market openings.

Tea exports were a focus of recent free trade talks between Indian and Sri Lanka. The move comes as a Tea Association of Sri Lanka has been formed, which is an umbrella group headed by the chiefs of the six associations representing sections of the industry.
