InBev is reported to be close to signing a deal in the Indian market and an announcement on its strategy could be forthcoming this month, according to local reports.

The Indian financial daily The Economic Times quoted the company's Asia Pacific president Brent Willis saying: "We are finalising our India plan which will be announced by the month-end. Our brands will be on the shelves this year itself. One of them could be a new label exclusively for India."

Willis added that the brewer was in talks with companies for a possible joint venture partnership. He would not divulge any names.

"We have had talks with many such brewers. Ideally, we would like to forge relations with a company which has ample production capacities and a robust distribution network," he was quoted saying.

Sectors: Beer & cider
