Huneeus Vintners is proud to announce the US release of Neyen’s 2008 vintage. This iconic Chilean blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère from Chile’s famed Apalta Valley comes from a 3,300 acre estate distinct in its history and beauty. Neyen invites you to discover the unique estate and learn more about the 2008 vintage on their brand new website.

Neyen is an estate wine produced from a historic vineyard estate in the heart of the Apalta Valley. The property has original Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère vines from Bordeaux that were planted in 1890, putting these vineyards among the oldest and most prized in Chile today.

“The celebrated terroir, along with the ancient vines at Neyen, makes it a truly rare and distinctive place, and I believe one of the most promising estates in Chile. In fact, if this estate were in Napa Valley, it would be one of the most historic, iconic, and sought-after vineyards.” - Agustin Francisco Huneeus

Neyen means “spirit” in the native language, and reflects the desire to capture the soul and beauty of the vineyard with a blend of the estate’s emblematic varieties – perhaps the world’s most famous red grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the lost Bordeaux grape, Carmenère. Carmenère at one time was widely cultivated in Bordeaux, but disappeared after phylloxera devastated the region. Recently, it was rediscovered in Chile, where it was believed to be a special clone of Merlot. As it turns out, Carmenère was brought over from Bordeaux in field blends in the 1800's to estates like Neyen, where it has survived all these years and still provides beautiful intense fruit.

Raul Rojas founded Neyen estate in Apalta in 2002, and partnered with Agustin Huneeus, proprietor of Quintessa in Napa Valley, in 2011. The partnership has brought together two great families of wine and reinforces the Huneeus’ family commitment to and vision for the potential of Chilean wine.

Neyen is crafted by a team of expert viticulturists and winemakers led by Rodrigo Soto. Born in Chile, Rodrigo brings a wealth of international winemaking experience to Neyen. Minimum intervention is central to Rodrigo’s winemaking philosophy. Together with their resident winemaker, Soledad Sanchez, they employ art, dedication and precision to reach the maximum expression of terroir.

Neyen’s 2008 vintage is a blend of 80% Carmenere and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. This beautiful blend provides intriguing aromas of red berry fruits, plum and subtle notes of cassis on the nose. On the palate, it is an elegant and balanced wine with layers of black fruits, nice oak and tobacco notes followed by soft, structured tannins. Neyen has a strong history of accolades, and the 2008 vintage received 93 points from the Wine Advocate and 91 points from the Wine Spectator.

The website provides information on the history of the estate, vineyards and wine cellar, as well as background information on the winemakers and proprietors. It also includes product information, video and picture galleries, a trade section including accolades and downloads, information on Neyen tours and tastings and a complete listing on where to purchase the wines on and off premise. All capturing the beauty and history of the Neyen Estate.

Neyen is available nationwide at fine wine and spirit shops (SRP. $49.99/750ml).

Huneeus Vintners South American portfolio also includes Veramonte, Primus and Ritual Wine.
