A slide in sales in South America has failed to prevent Arca Continental from posting a strong set of results from the third quarter of this year.

The Mexico-based Coca-Cola bottler, which is the second-largest in Latin America, said earlier today that total sales from its three reporting regions grew in the three months to the end of September by almost 7%. South America's 5.8% fall in the period was more than offset by Arca's home market - up 9.8% - and its US operations, which delivered a 10.3% increase.

The numbers represented an improvement on the bottler's first two quarters, as nine-month sales came in 4.4% up on the corresponding period a year earlier.

In Mexico, Arca flagged the wider roll-out of Coca-Cola Café in the third quarter, while the launch of Coca-Cola Energy in the period "posted favourable results. The strong numbers in the US, where the group has the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages subsidiary, came as Arca focused on increasing the digitalisation of its operations. "These models will enhance our service in key accounts in urban and rural areas, strength our execution efforts in the market and increase the efficiency of our operations," the company said. "In addition, we are structuring the e-commerce channel to capture demand in the digital space. We aim to deploy these models in 2020."

Finally, South America - where Arca covers Argentina, Ecuador and Peru - proved much tougher for the group. Sales tumbled by 16% in Argentina, where macro-economic conditions such as hyper-inflation show little sign of easing. Peru was flat in the three months while Ecuador recorded a 4% sales rise.
