Hiro Sake is to launch in Italy next year, marking the Japanese spirit producer's first entry into Europe.

The move comes as the company ramps up distribution in the US and also confirms its expansion into Mexico on 1 January.

"This has been a very exciting year for our brand as we are constantly met with requests to make Hiro available in new markets," the company said yesterday. "We have built a strong foothold in the US and Puerto Rico and now we are excited to move into Mexico and even to Europe in 2016."

The "premium" sake, which is brewed in Japan's Niigata Prefecture region, is now available in 20 US states. It first launched in the country in 2011 and last October revealed plans for expansion in western states.

Yesterday, the company said Hiro will now be available in Ohio through a distribution deal with Heidelberg Distributing Co starting this month.

Hiro Junmai (Red) and Hiro Junmai Ginjo Sake (Blue) are both available in 72cl and 30cl bottles, with SRPs of US$29.99/$15.99 and $39.99/$19.99, respectively.
