Hindustan Coca-Cola is India's largest Coca-Cola bottler

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages has unveiled plans for a a US$160m manufacturing plant in southern India.

The company, which is Coca-Cola Co's largest bottler in India, said today that Karnataka state officials are in the process of allocating a 250-acre site in the town of Yadgir. The proposed facility is part of Hindustan Coca-Cola's plans to boost its manufacturing capabilities, a spokesperson told just-drinks.

Details on the factory have not been disclosed but India's Economic Times reported that it will produce carbonated soft drinks. The report also said the plant will employ 500 people.

In 2012, Coca-Cola pledged to invest US$5bn in India by 2020 to help continue strong momentum in the market. The country has produced annual double-digit volume growth in the past six years.
